Peter Siegenthaler (born April 24, 1962 ; resident in Schangnau ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ).

Life

Peter Siegenthaler grew up on a farm in the Thun region . He completed a commercial apprenticeship and then worked in various companies in the private sector and in public administration in the Canton of Bern and the City of Bern . Siegenthaler is married and lives in Thun.

Peter Siegenthaler joined the Social Democratic Party in 1983. From 1992 to 2003 he was a member of the city council (legislature) of Thun, which he chaired in 2000 as city council president. In 2007 Siegenthaler was elected to the municipal council (executive) of Thun and took over the security and social affairs department . In 2010 he was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Bern . He has been a member of the Bureau of the Grand Council since 2010 and a member of the Audit Commission since 2012, which he has chaired since 2014. He has also been a substitute member of the security commission since 2014.

Siegenthaler is President of the Bernese Local Police Association and the Asylum Association of the Bernese Oberland and member of the board of the Association of Bernese Municipalities (VBG).
