Peter Thal

Peter Thal (born May 14, 1933 ) is a German economic historian.

Life

Until 1956, Thal studied economics at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU), where he received his doctorate from Gerhard Bondi in 1960 . In 1967 he received the chair for the history of economic doctrines at the MLU. In the following years he worked, among other things, as institute director, section director and prorector of the MLU - until the economics section of the MLU was "wound up" in 1992.

Together with Günter Fabiunke and Harbert Meißner, Thal succeeded in ensuring that the history of political economy as a subject was retained for all business students in the GDR. Already in his PhD A he dealt with the work of David Ricardo ; the promotion B took place in 1965 over Adam Smith . In his research projects, Thal mainly dealt with the classical English national economy; To this end, Thal translated key works by Smith.
