During his studies he founded the KTB architecture office with Max Kaspar and Hans Bosshard. His most important buildings include the “Rütiwiese” and “Mauersegler” housing estates, now known as “Wohnunikat”, in Adliswil.

The real estate company MSA, which emerged from the Adliswil silk weaving mill, began developing the western slope above the factory on the river in the 1970s. In 1973, Peter Thomann and the KTB office were able to win the contract for development planning in a competitive arrangement, of which the first section was also built; a row of terraced houses and an apartment building. But then planning stalled and the office dissolved.

Peter Thomann worked out a new development plan, but the responsible real estate company MSA withdrew and decided to sell the land together with the approved project. Due to the low demand, the purchase price was cheap (less than CHF 200 / m²). Thomann acquired the property in the summer of 1979 and developed his projects further. With the property on the western slope, Thomann had acquired a large test field. He continued to build on it for another 20 years. For financial reasons, the apartments are being sold and not rented.

In a first stage, a row of terraced houses and a terrace house were built on the north construction site in 1979–1981 . In a second stage, from 1993 to 1995, Thomann built a dense urban structure with car-free internal access routes on the south construction site. Towards the street, the estate ends with a row of row houses and a block of row houses, in which Peter Thomann's private house is also located.

In 2000 Thomann launched the “Swifts” project. Three years later he bought the piece of land above the "Rütiwiese" settlement from the city and began construction shortly afterwards. The shell was built in one go, but the expansion of the individual units should be done gradually. After the first six units had been sold, expanded and occupied in 2006, advance sales of the other residential units stalled, whereupon the bank canceled the building loan in 2007. The «Mauersegler AG» had to file for bankruptcy.

After «See Immo AG» bought the unfinished building project in 2009 and sold it again after a year, a group of investors from the area around the «Common Swift» took over the project and commissioned «Meierpartner Architects» to complete it. In 2011, the project was relaunched under the name of “Unique Housing”, with Peter Thomann as sales advisor.

His most important buildings include - in addition to the residential buildings in Adliswil - the hardening shop in Bronschhofen (TG), the “future factory” in Münchwilen (TG) and school buildings in Herdern (TG) and Uttwil (TG).
