Hermann Konrad Zinn (born March 1, 1941 in Quedlinburg ; † November 6, 2011 in Darmstadt ) was a German sociologist . In his work, he primarily examined the effects of the living environment on social relationships and the living and play needs of children.

Life and work

Zinn studied sociology , psychology , history and political science in Marburg and Berlin . In 1967 he published his diploma thesis entitled “The German nudist culture as a social movement”.

Since the late 1960s he worked for the Swiss planning company Metron , which at the time was considered to be left-wing alternative . In 1970/71 he was also a visiting lecturer in the architecture department at ETH Zurich . However, the university management under Hans H. Hauri found that sociological questions should not be taught in architecture and did not extend the contract with Zinn and two of his colleagues. The students protested against this decision.

Zinn later worked at the Institute for Housing and Environment in Darmstadt .
