Peter Thomas (soccer player)

Peter Thomas (born March 17, 1959 ) is a German former soccer player who played for BSG Chemie Buna Schkopau in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of the GDR soccer association, in 1981/82 .

Until 1981 Thomas played football with the company sports association (BSG) activist Geiseltal-Mitte in the fourth-class district class Halle (Saale) and worked as a car mechanic. In July 1981 he moved to the league promoted BSG Chemie Buna Schkopau. Although nominated for the league team, the only 1.66 m tall Thomas was only used in the junior league in the first half of the 1981/82 season . His first game in the GDR league was not played until February 27, 1982, when he was substituted on in the final minute of the match on the 15th match day Energie Cottbus - Buna Schkopau (0-0). He remained a substitute until matchday 20, and was in the starting line-up for the first time in the 21st round. This was repeated four times, each time he was called up as a midfielder. Overall, Thomas played 12 GDR league games by the end of the season, but remained without a goal. After only one season, the BSG Chemie had to relegate as the worst team from the league again. Thomas played for Schkopau in the second-rate GDR league until 1990 .
