Peter WA Schmidt

Peter Wilhelm A. Schmidt (* 1941 in Isny im Allgäu ) is a German sociologist. Until 2004 he was professor for sociology and political science at the PH Weingarten .

Life

From 1962 he studied history, political science and Catholic theology for the higher teaching post at grammar schools at the universities of Munich (until 1965) and Tübingen. From 1968 to 1970 Schmidt held a doctoral scholarship in history. From 1970 to 1973 he was a trainee teacher for secondary schools. In 1973 he worked as an assistant in the history department at the Weingarten University of Education. In 1975 he did his doctorate at the University of Tübingen under EW Zeeden on the subject of "Justus Möser as a historian".

In 1975 he was a lecturer and from 1980 to 1984 professor in the subject sociology / political science (with didactics of political education) at the Pedagogical University of Esslingen. Schmidt was then professor at the PH Weingarten from 1984 to 2004. He was a co-founder and longstanding board member of the Society for Christian-Jewish Encounters in Oberschwaben e. V.

Schmidt has been married to Irmintraud Burmeister since 1969. The couple have four children.
