Peter Weidhaas (born February 25, 1938 in Berlin ) is a German bookseller and manager ; He was director of the Frankfurt Book Fair for around 25 years .

Life

Weidhaas trained as a bookseller and was a book manufacturer at Thieme Verlag in Stuttgart . At times he traveled as a tramp through Europe and stayed in Denmark, where he also worked. In 1968 he joined the Ausstellungs- und Messe GmbH of the Börsenverein des Deutschen Buchhandels , which organizes the Frankfurt Book Fair. His task there was initially to organize German book exhibitions abroad. Weidhaas was director of the Frankfurt Book Fair from 1975 to 2000. He retired in 2000. In 1980 he was one of the initiators of the foundation of the "Society for the Promotion of Literature from Africa, Asia and Latin America".

He has written two volumes of memories and a history of the Frankfurt Book Fair.
