Peter Widerin

Peter Widerin (* around 1684 in Stanz in Tyrol ; † 1760 in St. Pölten ) was an Austrian sculptor.

Life

In 1715, Widerin became a citizen of the city of St. Pölten and in the following year married 19-year-old Maria Anna, a daughter of the master builder Jakob Prandtauer .

Works

As a sculptor, Widerin mainly worked on his father-in-law's building projects. Among other things, he created the colossal statues of St. Leopold and St. Koloman at the main portal of Melk Abbey (based on plans by Lorenzo Mattielli ), designed numerous objects in the former St. Pölten Abbey (today cathedral church ) and created the Michael's altar on Sunday Mountain. Other of his works were the Kalvarienberggruppe in St. Pölten and a Nepomuk statue each in Spratzern, Ochsenburg and Stattersdorf .
