Peter Zängry (born April 16, 1910 in Neukirchen ; † March 2000 ) was a German football player and coach .

Life

Peter Zängry began playing club football at a village club in Mehlingen . There he played in the first team at the age of 17 and was a goalscorer. He was discovered and signed by Hans Werner , a coach at 1. FC Kaiserslautern . From 1930 to 1935 he was one of the regular players at FCK and one of the best players in the region. Among other things, he got an offer as a professional at FC Nancy , which Zängry refused, which he said he didn't regret later on. On September 25, 1935, his career was over when he was "kicked a nerve in his leg."

The then FCK President Ludwig Müller then used Zängry as youth leader. In this activity he trained a large part of the later famous "Walter Elf", including the brothers Fritz and Ottmar Walter . Zängry also supported the first team coach, Karl Berndt . Because of his injury, Zängry was not drafted into the Wehrmacht. After the war, Zängry continued to work in the club. Richard Schneider had replaced him as youth leader . Zängry became a member of the game committee and later a treasurer at FCK.

Professionally, Zängry first completed a savings bank apprenticeship and later also worked in the banking and finance sector.
