Peter Zimmermann (data protection officer)

Peter Zimmermann (born February 20, 1944 in Timmendorf , Schleswig-Holstein) is a German data protection expert .

Zimmermann studied law at the Free University of Berlin and the Eberhard-Karls-University of Tübingen . Since 1971 he has held various positions in the internal administration of the state of Baden-Württemberg ; he was in the district administration offices Ravensburg, Ludwigsburg, regional council worked Stuttgart and in the country's Interior Ministry. From 1992 to 2002 Zimmermann was then regional returning officer. From November 1, 2002 to February 28, 2009 he was the state commissioner for data protection (LfD)of the state of Baden-Württemberg. Zimmermann advocated merging the data protection authorities for the non-public and public areas in Baden-Württemberg, as is already the case in other federal states.
