Stefan Brink (2016)

Stefan Brink (* 1966 in Kaiserslautern ) is a lawyer and has been the state commissioner for data protection for the state of Baden-Württemberg since December 1, 2016 .

Career

Brink studied law in Mainz, Heidelberg, Dijon and Paris. He received his doctorate with Hans Herbert von Arnim at the German University of Administrative Sciences in Speyer . He worked for the Scientific Service of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Parliament and later as a judge at the Koblenz Administrative Court and as a research assistant at the Federal Constitutional Court (1st Senate, Reinhard Gaier). Before he moved to Baden-Württemberg in 2008, this was followed by his tenure as Head of Private Data Protection at the State Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information in Rhineland-Palatinate and as Deputy State Commissioner for Freedom of Information in Rhineland-Palatinate.

Brink is a member of the FDP and - at the suggestion of the Greens - was elected by the state parliament of Baden-Württemberg on December 1, 2016 with 108 out of 125 votes as the state commissioner for data protection and freedom of information (LfDI) . He is the successor to Jörg Klingbeil, who left office on April 30, 2016 . The long vacancy had previously been viewed critically, and the late replacement seemed inappropriate given the importance of data protection at the time. He took up his official duties on January 1, 2017.

Brink has published on various legal, in particular data protection issues. He is a lecturer at both the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer and the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt / Oder.

In the course of the Ibiza affair , Brink described the creation of the Strache video as a “criminal injustice” and thus met with incomprehension.

Brink hit the headlines again when he imposed a fine of over 1.2 million euros on the health insurance company AOK Baden-Württemberg during the corona pandemic.

Brink is married and has three daughters.
