Peter of Brentano

Peter von Brentano (born May 22, 1935 in Zurich ; † September 20, 2019 in Cologne ) was a German experimental nuclear physicist (nuclear spectroscopy ).

The family of Bernard von Brentano was in Switzerland in exile and returned to the Second World War, back to Germany. Peter von Brentano grew up in Wiesbaden . He studied physics at the University of Frankfurt ; a fellow student was Walter Greiner . He turned to nuclear spectroscopy and received his doctorate in 1963 from the University of Heidelberg under Wolfgang Gentner , where he worked at the Max Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics . As a post-graduate student, he was in Seattle and Texas. In 1968 he completed his habilitation in Heidelberg and from 1970 until his retirement in 2000 he was a professor in Cologne.
