Foundation and development
Ruttkowski68 was founded in 2010 by Nils Müller in Cologne and is named after the DJ Sven Ruttkowski (DJ Rutte), who died at the mixer during a performance in the Club Fernmeldeamt in Braunschweig in the year the gallery was founded . In memory of him, Müller opened the gallery in Ruttkowski's former apartment at 68 Bismarckstrasse in Cologne.
The gallery has changed its location several times since 2010. First, the gallery was expanded to include the rooms of the former Galerie Schüppenhauer on Bismarckstrasse 70, and then in 2018 it was moved to a former industrial building on Lichtstrasse 8-24 in the Ehrenfeld district of Cologne .
The gallery's branch in Paris also opened in 2018 on Rue Charlot in the Marais district .
The gallery's original location remained a project space called Pop; 68, in which curatorial projects and experimental solo exhibitions by aspiring artists and young creative people take place.
Ruttkowski68 regularly participates in art fairs, including Art Cologne , Dallas Art Fair and COFA Contemporary.
