The Petersen Bank ( English ) is a submarine bank in the Mawson Sea off the coast of the East Antarctic Wilkesland . It extends immediately west of the Balaena Islands in a north-northwest direction.

The ships of the US Operation Windmill (1947-1948) carried out depth soundings of part of the bank. This was done in more detail between 1956 and 1957 by scientists from the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions . The bank is named after the Danish captain Hans Christian Petersen, skipper of the Kista Dan during deep soundings in January 1956.
