The Petit district is one of 25 districts ( Municipios ) of the Venezuelan state of Falcón and is located in its center between the San Luis mountain range and the Los Remedios river, 850 m above sea level. M. Agriculture is the most important industry in the region.

To the north is the Sierra de San Luis National Park .

The region was formerly a settlement area of ​​the Jirajara. When the Spaniards arrived, their leaders were Cahure and Bacoa, who rose up against the Spaniards.

In 1795 there was an uprising of slaves and peasants in this region, which was suppressed by the Spaniards. The leader, Chirino, and several of his people were executed.

The district is currently governed by the PSUV. In the 2010 elections for the National Assembly, the PSUV received 70.96% of the vote. In the 2008 regional elections, the PSUV received 67.17 of the votes.
