Petit is a small, bowl-shaped impact crater on the eastern edge of the front of the moon , on the northwestern edge of Mare Spumans , south of Townley crater . The crater floor is flat. The stripes of bright ejecta in the area are noticeable, forming a small radiation system that extends as far as the Mare Spumans .
The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1976 after the French physicist Alexis Thérèse Petit . Previously, he was as Apollonius W respectively.
