Petr Benda (born March 25, 1982 in Jihlava , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech basketball player . Since the 2007/08 season he has played for the Czech ČEZ Nymburk in the positions of center or power forward.
Career as a player
society
Petr Benda began his career in his native Jihlava, where he stayed until he was nineteen. He then moved to BVV Brno. During the six years in Brno he reached the Czech Cup final once and the semifinals of the Czech Championship three times. With Brno he played in the FIBA Europe Cup and the Eurocup Challenge. At the beginning of the 2008/09 season he signed a contract with Czech flagship club ČEZ Nymburk. With Nymburk, Benda played every year in the Eurocup and in the seasons 2010/11 to 2012/13 each qualifying for the Euroleague. He was Czech champion and Czech cup winner five times each. Since the 2011/12 season he has also played with Nymburk in the VTB United League . Here he was named the best Czech player in the 2012/13 season.
National team
Petr Benda took part with the Czech national basketball team at the 2007 European Championship in Spain, where the Czech Republic finished 13th with 3 defeats. He also played in the national team at the A-EM in 2005, 2007 and 2009 and in the B-EM for the Czech Republic in 2011.
