Petr Urban

Petr Urban (born August 8, 1960 in Jablonec nad Nisou ) is a Czech former luge athlete and later a draftsman and illustrator . He is one of the most famous artists in his homeland.

Live and act

Urban comes from a family of athletes and is the son of luge driver Horst Urban and nephew of Roland Urban . He is married with two children and lives in Smržovka . Before his career as an artist, he was an active athlete who took part as a toboggan in the Winter Olympics in Calgary in 1988 and in Albertville in 1992 . He was also a multiple Czechoslovak champion.

The figure Ruda Pivrnec (German: true beer drinker; free translation: Bruno Bierbauch), who is very well known in his homeland and is used by the Radegast brewery for advertising purposes, comes from his pen . His caricatures appeared on the front page of the daily Lidové noviny for two years , he illustrated various books, so u. a. a new edition of Jaroslav Hašek's novel The good soldier Schwejk .

Petr Urban owned a pub in his native Smržovka, which is decorated with his caricatures on the walls.
