Petra Dobner

Petra Dobner (* 1964 ) is a German political scientist .

Life

From 1983 to 1992 she studied medicine , philosophy and political science at the Free University of Berlin . She graduated with a degree in political science with a thesis on manifestations of power with Elias Canetti . From 1992 to 1994 she worked for Stattbau GmbH, Berlin, and for the EU project Armut 3 in Berlin-Friedrichshain . From 1994 to 1999 she was a research assistant at the Chair for Political Theory at the University of Potsdam with Heinz Kleger. In 1999 she did her doctorate there with a thesis on "Constitutionalism as a form of politics" with Heinz Kleger and Suzanne S. Schüttemeyer . Regarding the effects of state transformation on the constitution as an institution, in 2001 she was a research assistant at the Chair for Government Studies and Policy Analysis at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (owner: Suzanne S. Schüttemeyer). From 1999 to 2001 she was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Potsdam . After completing his habilitation in 2007 on “Water Policy. On Political Theory, Practice and Critique of Global Governance ”, she was a fellow at the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin from 2007 to 2008 , focus group“ Constitutionalism beyond the nation state ”. From 2008 to 2010 she represented the chairs for governance and policy research at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, transnational governance of the “Cluster of Excellence 243: Formation of Normative Orders” at the TU Darmstadt and for comparative governance at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . From 2010 to 2012 she taught as a professor for political science, especially government studies, at the University of Hamburg . Since 2012, she has succeeded Everhard Holtmann in the department of systems analysis and comparative political science at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. Since 2018, as the successor to Suzanne S. Schüttemeyer, she has also been dean of the Philosophical Faculty I at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg.

Her role in the appointment procedure to succeed Suzanne S. Schüttemeyer to the Chair of Government Studies and Policy Analysis is considered controversial.

Her research interests are governance, water policy, transnational constitutionalism and the transformation of statehood.
