The Petroglyph Provincial Park is a 1.8 ha large Provincial Park in the Canadian province of British Columbia , is next to the memory Iceland Provincial Park and the Seton Portage Historic Provincial Park , to three of the smallest provincial parks in British Columbia . The park is located in the Regional District of Nanaimo , on the outskirts of Nanaimo .
The park is named after the numerous petroglyphs that can be found in the park. The more than 1000 year old rock carvings show images of mythological sea creatures as well as human and animal figures / symbols. The sandstone work is mainly attributed to the Snuneymuxw .

The park is a category III protected area ( natural monument ).
The park lies between the Trans Canada Highway and the point at which the Nanaimo River flows into the Northumberland Channel , a tributary of the Strait of Georgia .
history
The Provincial Park was established on August 24, 1948. The park is one of the older of the Provincial Parks in British Columbia. In the course of time, both the protection status and the size of the park (it was 1.554 hectares at times) have changed several times.
activities
There is only a little information about the tourist infrastructure in the park. There are no recreational facilities.
