Petros P. Kalonaros

Petros P. Kalonaros ( Greek Πέτρος Π. Καλονάρος , * 1894 in Nomia , Kitta, Laconia (Νόμια Κοίτας Λακωνίας); † May 15, 1959 in Athens ) was a Greek Byzantinist , folklorist and photographer.

Life

Kalonaros grew up in Nomia and attended high schools all over Greece, depending on where his father, a tax clerk, was employed. In 1917 he went to France and studied Romance languages ​​and law in Nancy and Aix-en-Provence for five years . After his return he taught French in the school service from 1925 to 1937 and from 1937 to 1953 as a professor in the Army School for Officer Candidates (Στρατιωτική Σχολή Ευελπίδων). At the same time he graduated from the Philology Department of the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Athens .

His wife was the poet Ekaterini P. Kalonarou – Kanakaki (Αικατερίνη Π. Καλονάρου – Κανακάκη) from Monemvasia .

Kalonaros' most important work is an edition of the Chronicle of Morea , another philological work part of an edition of Digenis Akritas . In addition, Kalonaros has published numerous folkloric writings, some with reference to the Mani or the Greek diaspora in southern Italy or Corsica , some with his own photographs. The essays and newspaper articles published by him are also numerous.
