Petros Tabouris

Petros Tabouris ( Greek Πέτρος Ταμπούρης also Petros Tampouris ; born September 29, 1964 in Athens ) is a Greek composer, musician and musicologist.

Tabouris studied music and computer science at the National Technical University of Athens . From an early age he was occupied with folk instruments and traditional Greek music, studied Byzantine church music and its theory and has mastered folk instruments such as the Kanonaki . He experimented with the reconstruction and playing technique of ancient Greek instruments and released singles with recordings of Balkan and Greek folk music

He also set poems by newer authors such as Thodoris Gonis and Kostis Palamas to music . His songs have been interpreted by Gerasimos Andreatos , Eleni Tsaligopoulou , Eleftheria Arvanitaki , Anastasia Moutsatsou , Alexandros Chatzis and Kostas Pavlidis , among others . As a musician, Tabouris gave concerts in Greece and abroad and worked with the composers Yannis Markopoulos , Manos Hadjidakis , Nikos Xydakis and others.

He composed the music to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the modern 1996 Olympic Games in the Panathinaiko Stadium in Athens and drama music for performances of ancient Greek plays. From 2000 he also began to write film music for foreign cinema and television productions. With his music group Melos Archaion ( Μέλος αρχαίον ) he has performed in Italy, France, Spain, Great Britain and Poland since 1996.
