Nikos Xydakis

Nikos Xydakis ( Greek Νίκος Ξυδάκης , born March 17, 1952 in Cairo , Egypt ) is a Greek composer.

Nikos Xydakis grew up in the Greek community of Cairos. His ancestors came from Samos and Kasos . Like most of the Greeks in Egypt, he came to Greece in 1963. He reintroduced disregarded instruments into Greek music. With his compositions he went new melodic ways and combined Greek influences, rebetiko and the urban music of the Middle East. He enriches the Mediterranean atmosphere with elements from religion, history, legends and sagas.

He has worked with many well known artists including Manolis Rasoulis, Thodoris Gkonis Eleftheria Arvanitaki , Melina Kana , Dora Masklavanou and Nikos Papazoglou .

Concert tours have taken him to Bulgaria, Germany, Egypt and Australia.
