Peter Gobbels

Petrus Gobbels (also Petrus Gubbels, Petrus Göbbels) (baptized on May 28, 1782 in Groningen ; † September 27, 1856 ibid) was a Dutch painter .

Life

Gobbels, the son of a wig maker from Groningen , began training at the Groningen Art Academy in Minerva in 1798. He was a student of Gerardus de San. He then worked as a draftsman , painter and art teacher . Gobbels worked mainly as a portrait painter and in the field of figure studies and design. His materials were chalk and pastel.

Gobbels died in the poor house at the age of 74 .
