Peter of Pisa

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Peter von Pisa († around 799) was an early medieval scholar at the court of Charlemagne .

Peter taught Latin grammar in Pisa . As part of the Carolingian educational reform promoted by Karl , he was one of the first scholars to come to his court (probably around 774). According to Einhard , the old Petrus Karl taught in Latin ( Vita Karoli Magni 25). He was in contact with some scholars at Karl's court, such as Paulus Diaconus .

Peter was not an original writer and was probably prone to a certain vanity. He wrote a grammar dedicated to Karl and used ancient , especially late antique, works for this purpose , including Aelius Donatus and Priscian . He also wrote poetry.
