Pettanko

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pettanko ( Japanese ぺ っ た ん こ , dt. "Flat / flat girl") is an often derogatory term for a flat-chested woman, derived from Japanese slang . The term does not aim at the pure property of a small, flat chest, but at a personality who thinks intensively about it, because it is aware of it. Whether she prides herself on being different from the so-called “average” or whether it arouses frustration or fear in her doesn't make a significant difference.

Related to manga and anime

Such characters are common in manga and anime . For example, Lina Inverse from Slayers , Louise from Zero no Tsukaima and Taiga from Toradora! called Pettanko, although the latter also have the typical characteristics of a Tsundere . All three are aware of their flat chests compared to other female characters and develop a corresponding envy. It is different, for example, with Mayumi from Shuffle! who is proud of it. Still, the other characters keep making fun of her in this regard. Likewise, in Seitokai no Ichizon, Ken repeatedly referred to Kurimu as “Pettanko” when she stamped the students' applications.
