The Petter Bay is a bay on the east coast of Coronation Iceland in Archipelago of the South Orkney Islands . It is located 800 m south of Spence Harbor .
The British whaling captain George Powell (1794-1824) and his American counterpart Nathaniel Palmer made a rough map of the coast around this bay in December 1821. It appears as Petters Bay on maps of the Norwegian whaling captain Petter Sørlle (1884–1933) from 1912 and in corrected form on such by Sørlles compatriot Hans Engelbert Borge (1873–1946), captain of the whaler Polynesia . It is likely that Borge had previously made the name in memory of Petter Sørlle.
