The Peyrieras woolly lemur ( Avahi peyrierasi ) is a primate species from the lemur group . It was only described in 2006 as a separate species from the eastern woolly lemur and is named after the French zoologist André Peyrieras.

Peyrieras lemurs reach a body length of around 27 centimeters, plus a tail that is around 33 centimeters long. Their weight is around 0.9 to 1.1 kilograms. Their fur is dense and woolly, it is colored red-brown on the top and light gray on the underside. The bushy tail is more reddish than the body. The head is rounded, the eyes are large, the muzzle is short and dark.

Like all lemurs, Peyrieras lemurs only occur in Madagascar , where they inhabit the rainforests on the east coast. The exact extent of its range is not known, one of its main occurrences is in the Ranomafana National Park . The way of life of this newly described species is not known, presumably it corresponds to that of the other woolly lemurs. As a result, they are nocturnal tree dwellers, who climb and jump vertically, live in monogamous family groups and feed primarily on leaves.

Their degree of risk is also unclear. The IUCN lists the species under “too little data available” ( data deficient ).
