Palatinate Regiolekt

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Palatinate Regiolekt or the Palatinate regional language is spoken in the Palatinate region - in the southern part of the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate - as a regional colloquial language. It is usually called Palatinate for short, which can lead to confusion with the Palatinate dialects . The Regiolekt differs significantly from these. In contrast to the local dialects, it is understandable throughout the region, linguistically is much closer to standard German and mediates between the language levels.

Its distribution area lies between that of the Rhenish in the north, the Neuhessian in the east, the French in the west and the Badisch- Alemannic Regiolekten in the south.

Its linguistic classification in the sense of variety linguistics and the theory of the Strata is between the many basic dialects of the region and the national standard German. In terms of linguistic dynamics, it acts as a modern language of balance between them.
