Pfaff Island is a small island in the Bennett Islands group off the Loubet coast of Graham Land in the north of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located in Hanusse Bay immediately south of Gränicher Island .
Aerial photographs of the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947–1948) and the British Falkland Islands and Dependencies Aerial Survey Expedition (1956–1957) were used to map them. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1965 after the German geologist Friedrich Pfaff (1825–1886), who carried out pioneering research into the deformability of ice in Switzerland between 1874 and 1875 .
