The rectory in Bürg , a district of Neuenstadt am Kocher in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg , is a historic building that essentially dates back to 1767. In the course of its history it also served as a town hall and school and is now the community center.

history

After the citizen of Neuenstadt am Kocher had had its own pastor since 1766, the local lord Casimir von Gemmingen (1697–1769), who also had patronage rights in Bürg, built a rectory between the castle and church in 1767 . The year of construction as well as the name and coat of arms of the local lord at the time adorn the portal of the building. From 1820 to 1841 Karl Friedrich Jaeger was pastor in Bürg and lived with his family in the building. In addition to his wife and six children, all of whom were born in Bürg, there were other relatives among the residents. To accommodate Jaeger's mother-in-law, an extension to the building, which otherwise only consists of the ground floor and attic, was approved. Boards on the building still remind of two of Jaeger's sons: Otto Jäger (1828–1912) was a German educator and gymnastics writer, Gustav Jäger (1832–1917) was a scientist and promoted healthy woolen clothing.

In 1906 the parish in Bürg was abolished. Gustav Jäger wrote about the circumstances: The economic change has led to the fact that the von Gemmingen estate is being worked on by migrating Poles and not by the local population. The latter was Protestant, the Polack are Catholic, and the patronage, which previously belonged to an Evangelical line, was transferred to a Catholic line (from Gemmingen-Hornberg). An evangelical parish was no longer there and the evangelical rectory had to give way to a town hall.

After Bürg no longer had his own parish, the building was the town hall from 1906 until the incorporation of Bürgs into Neuenstadt am Kocher in 1973, and it served as an administrative office until 1982. The inscription above the second portal 1906 - Old Town Hall - 1982 reminds of this building use. Today the building serves as a parish hall.
