Hermannstein rectory

The Hermannstein parsonage was built in 1494 in today's Wetzlar district of Hermannstein in Central Hesse . It is entered as an architectural monument in the list of monuments of the city of Wetzlar .

description

The rectory was built in 1494 as a hermitage for beguines north of the church . It was originally provided with a bridge access from the upper floor to the north-west gallery of the church, which was removed in 1772/79. The entrance is still visible in the church.

The hermitage initially only comprised part of what is now the rectory. The two-story central building is the oldest building section. It consists of a rectangle about 16.5 × 7 m with 1.20 m thick quarry stone walls. Not long after completion, the hermitage was expanded on the south side by a 9 × 6 m, also two-story extension. The ground floor served as an entrance hall, the space above became the convent room.

The third construction phase on the northern side was mentioned in a room description in 1780, but the exact construction date cannot be determined. It has always not been a match for the old hermitage. A half-timbered building with clay walls rose above the thick-walled foundation. In 1892 it was found to be in disrepair. The extension was torn down to the foundations and rebuilt with bricks that did not match the old monastery building. In 1974 the brick building was slated, thereby improving the overall impression of the facility.
