Listed as a historical monument

The Protestant rectory at the Alexander Church is a listed secular building in the city of Oerlinghausen in the Lippe district ( North Rhine-Westphalia ). The half-timbered house is registered with the number 2 as an architectural monument in the municipal monument list.

history

The rectory was built in 1823 on the site of the former churchyard that surrounded the entire church. The last burial took place there in 1862. By 1970 the building was so dilapidated that the board of directors of the Evangelical Parish decided to demolish it and plan to build a new flat-storey rectory at the same location. A fierce controversy arose over the preservation of the building. At the urging of numerous citizens, the city council under Mayor Dreckshage finally decided to renovate the historic rectory. A generous subsidy was granted from state funds, which made repairs possible. Today the old rectory shines in new splendor. It is used for parish events.
