history

It is not known when the parish church of St. Valentine was founded in Ansfelden. However, it is believed that it was founded around 764, after the relics of St. Valentine were transferred to Passau. It has been rebuilt and renovated several times. Today's appearance goes back largely to the Baroque style at the beginning of the 18th century, with some parts of the old structure being integrated into the new building. The buttresses, for example, come from the Gothic construction phase, while some parts of the tower are still Romanesque. There are some reports of renovations and new facilities. The present facility was partly made by Pastor Börger (1872–77). He had the new pulpit and pictures of the Stations of the Cross installed in the church. His successor Joseph Zauner had the side altars built around 1887 and the high altar a little later.

The high altar picture with St. Valentine was reused and already adorned the baroque altar. Art historians suggest that it was painted by Altomonte, but more likely by Johann Karl von Reslfeld . The pews were made in 1893 by the Ansfeldn master carpenter Seiberl. The beautifully decorated side panels were also carved by J. Weismayr from Ansfeld, who learned this craft during his imprisonment in Garsten. During the last renovation of the church, the frescoes that adorned the interior were removed with a sandblasting device, and the side altars, together with the pulpit, probably found their final resting place on the rectory attic. During this renovation, Pastor Geiß also had a baptistery added and heating installed.

Rectory

The baroque rectory was built between 1696 and 1707 by the baroque master builder Carlo Antonio Carlone . The construction was started by Pastor Mathäus von Weißenberg, and completed under Pastor Perger. The vicarage not only served the pastor and the cooperator as a residence, the provosts of St. Florian also spent their summers here. Over the centuries, almost every pastor has carried out renovations or renovations. Not only the numerous alterations and the mostly poorly carried out renovation measures took a toll on the building. During the French era, when French soldiers were housed in the parsonage, and at the time of National Socialism, when it was planned to convert it into a music archive, the building fabric also caused major damage. The general renovation that began in 2012 was completed in 2013.

Sacristan's house

Next to the church and the rectory is the sacristan's house built on the southern wall of the cemetery. Until 1870 the teacher also performed the sacristan service. Both the sacristan's apartment and the school classes were in the sacristan's house, in which Anton Bruckner was born. The origins of the parish schools go back to the Reformation, when schools were also used by both denominations to influence students. The church accounts of 1598/99 show that the first known schoolmaster in Ansfelden was Philipp Pabst. The first school house was mentioned as early as 1600; A new building followed in 1665, which was largely replaced in 1706. On August 4th, 1777 Joseph Bruckner became a schoolmaster in Ansfelden. He practiced this profession until 1822, when he was followed by his son Anton Bruckner, who was a schoolmaster until his father's death in 1837, and whose grave is the only one still in the old cemetery next to the church. In 1867 the parishes had to hand over the school administration to the state, and the parish schools became state schools. Although the schoolhouse had to be expanded from one to two classes due to the lack of space, there was still not enough space, so in 1905 a new school was considered for the first time. In the spring of 1907, the construction of today's elementary school building began, which was completed on October 27, 1907, and classes could begin on November 4. The state of Upper Austria bought the old schoolhouse from the parish in 1968 and set up a memorial for Anton Bruckner there.
