location

history

The parish that already existed earlier was incorporated into the Geras monastery around 1153 . A consecration of the choir is reported in 1517. In 1597 the church tower was built. In contrast to the existing church, the original church was built in Gothic style, remains are preserved in the form of a Gothic tabernacle (around 1515) in the choir to the left of the altar and the late Gothic south portal. In 1620 and 1645 the church was devastated in the Thirty Years' War and then rebuilt as a three-nave church with a higher central nave under a common roof ( staggered church ). In the course of the Baroque transformation in the 18th century, the Gothic windows of the Gothic choir, which has apparently still been preserved, were walled up or cut off at different heights.

Furnishing

High altar picture hll. Peter and Paul

The high altar picture with the depiction of the church patrons St. Peter and Paul is attributed to Paul Troger or one of his students. The ceiling frescoes (around 1780) are by the Troger student Lukas Stipperger. The baroque organ is thought to have been made by the organ builder Casparides from Znojmo around 1729.

Fallen memorial

In the entrance area of the church, a small memorial has been set up for the soldiers who died in the Second World War in the nearby and originally German-settled village of Stallek in the Czech Republic .
