The Roman Catholic parish church Engelhartstetten is located in the village of Engelhartstetten in the municipality of Engelhartstetten in the Gänserndorf district in Lower Austria . It is consecrated to St. Mark and is located in the Marchfeld deanery in the vicariate Unter dem Manhartsberg of the Archdiocese of Vienna . The building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

Location description

The church stands in the middle of the Angers in the village of Engelhartstetten.

history

The church in Engelhartstetten originally belonged to the Gerlos parish, which has now disappeared . Engelhartstetten became an independent parish around 1650, which was rebuilt in 1784. The building dates from the second half of the 17th century.

architecture

Church exterior

The church is a simple baroque structure. There is a mighty gable roof over the nave . The windows are arched. The choir is the same width as the nave. The west tower has a pointed helmet. A small sacristy is attached to the church in the east.

The nave is long, the choir drawn in a little. The choir and nave have lunette windows. A sacristy annex adjoins the choir on the east side .

Church interior

The three-bay nave is vaulted with a groin . The vault rests on flat pillars, the stucco is painted. The transverse rectangular choir is slightly raised. There is a cross vault above the one-bay choir . The three-part organ gallery rests on pairs of double columns and is vaulted under a square .

Furnishing

The baroque high altar dates from the first half of the 18th century. The altarpiece shows St. Mark. It is flanked by statues of Saints Peter , Paul , John Nepomuk and Francis Xavier . In the extract the Holy Trinity is shown. The altar has sacrificial portals that are decorated with vases.

The side altars date from the first half of the 18th century. The altarpiece on the left side altar shows the Assumption of Mary . The side figures depict St. Anne, Mary teaching reading and Joachim . In the excerpt there is a picture of the Holy Trinity. The right side altarpiece shows the Holy Family , flanked by figures of Saints Rochus and Sebastian . Saint Rosalia is shown in the extract .

The pulpit dates from the end of the 17th century. Figures of the four evangelists are depicted on the basket. There is a figure of St. Michael on the cover . In a niche on the triumphal arch there is a baroque statue of the Madonna of Mercy from the mid-18th century. The Stations of the Cross are from the beginning of the 19th century. The baroque font dates from the beginning of the 18th century.

The organ was built by Josef Ullmann in 1893 .
