Freundorf Parish Church
The Freundorf parish church is located on the northern outskirts of the village of Freundorf in the market town of Judenau-Baumgarten in the Tulln district in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated to St. John the Baptist , belongs to the Tulln deanery in the diocese of St. Pölten . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).
history
Around 1300 a vicariate of Tulln was officially named a parish in 1331.
In 1862 there was a church fire. The spire was built in 1895. In 1998 a restoration was carried out.
architecture
The late Gothic church with a baroque style and a choir and a baroque east tower is surrounded by a cemetery.
The simple, undivided nave has buttresses, the cornered buttress in the southwest shows a carved heraldic shield from the middle of the 15th century. In the western front there is a set octagonal gothic stair tower slightly off the axis to the south, in the western front there is also a bricked-up pointed arch window. The retracted choir from the 14th century has stepped buttresses and baroque rounded windows. The 17th century tower built to the east of the choir has loopholes in the lower area above a profiled base and arched windows in the upper storey, and has a curved roof with sound windows and a pyramid helmet. Two baroque chapels are built on the south side of the nave. In the southern corner of the choir there is a baroque sacristy extension.
The stained glass Holy Family and Florian in the nave was created after 1900. The stained glass in the choir of Trinity , Christ , Madonna in Protection was created by the painter Maria Sturm around 1970.
Furnishing
The high altar with neo-Gothic, delicate crack from 1908 by Fritz Pape shows the altarpiece Baptism of Christ from the 17th century cleaned and painted over by Fritz Pape in 1938 and bears the side niche statues of Maria and Joseph.
The organ was built by Max Jakob in 1892. Ferdinand Vötterlechner mentions a bell in 1764.
