history

Documented in 1160 a branch of the parish church Aschbach-Markt, Hollenstein became an independent parish before 1258. From 1267 to 1803 the parish belonged to the diocese of Freising .

The east-facing Gothic church building from the second half of the 14th century was reoriented to the north from 1761 to 1765 by demolishing the nave and maintaining and incorporating the Gothic choir and west tower with a late baroque hall church.

architecture

The church is surrounded by a cemetery with a wall ring. The church is accessed with a mighty wooden staircase structure (so-called Kirlabn) under a high wedge roof. To the south there is a baroque sacristan's house under a gable roof with a crooked hip.

Church exterior

The baroque nave under a mighty hipped roof with a staggered north choir and a south wing under hipped roofs shows smooth, undivided facades with arched windows. The southern front has three two-storey monumental blind arches and the statue of Johannes Nepomuk in the central niche .

The former Gothic choir with buttresses protrudes to the east, and the tracery window in the east is walled up. The massive, compact medieval three-storey west tower has a high, striking wedge roof and large sound windows.

Church interior

The baroque three-bay, north-facing nave from 1716/1765 shows wide square vaults with recessed stucco field decoration and twin belt arches with stucco decoration and high rounded window niches. The three-axis organ loft, arched with a groin, has a sweeping brushing. The retracted, almost square, square vaulted choir has a segmented apse.

To the east of the organ gallery is the Gothic single - bay cross-ribbed vaulted choir with a five -eighth closure as a so-called women's chapel with a southern late Gothic shoulder portal to the former sacristy under cross-ribbed vaults.

The stained glass in the women's chapel shows Leopold and Florian from 1898. The stained glass in the nave are decorative panels.

Furnishing

The high altar around 1760/1770 as a wall retable set in the apse with two columns and a curved extract shows the high altar sheet Johannes the Baptist and Nikolaus painted by Jakob Preitschopf in 1832 after Martin Johann Schmidt .

A bell calls 1574.
