history

In a document in 1187 a church was named as a branch of the parish church chambers and in 1196 incorporated into Admont Abbey. The church was elevated to a parish church in 1566.

A chapel was added around 1450/1460. After the Turkish invasion in 1480, the church was restored. Because of its dilapidation, the nave was re-vaulted from 1602 to 1607 with the master Peter Carlone. The church tower was completed in baroque style in 1774 by Josef Hueber. The church suffered fires in 1718, 1766, 1807, and 1887. In 1841 the altars were renovated. In 1972/1975 the church was restored.

architecture

The church has stepped buttresses on the outside, placed over a corner at the top of the choir and with pinnacles at the top of the choir. On the north side of the choir is a stair tower developed from an octagon.

The high, wide three-bay nave under a pointed barrel with stitch caps with painted net ribs is connected to the retracted four-bay Gothic choir under a net-rib vault with a three-eighth end over a constricted ogival fron arch. The vaults lie on Gothic circular services on profiled wall templates. The three-axis west gallery is two-storey on round pillars, the lower storey on a groin vault, the upper storey has a laterally protruding parapet. The two and three-lane tracery windows show figural panes by Lindner and Koller from Graz (1902). The three-storey west tower was given a baroque dome after a fire in 1766.

Chapel of St. Joseph

The three-bay chapel of St. Joseph contains entirely wall paintings in the manner of Johann von Lederwasch .

Furnishing

The mighty high altar from 1675/1680 bears statues by Aegyd Meixner and shows the coat of arms of Abbot Adalbert Heufler (1675–1696).

The organ was built by Matthäus Mauracher (1878). Martin Feltl names a bell in 1767.
