Johann Lederwasch (born December 28, 1755 in Tamsweg , † January 1, 1827 in Graz ) (was ennobled in 1810, after which he also called himself Johann von Lederwasch ) was a painter from the Salzburg family of painters Lederwasch . He was the son of Gregor Lederwasch IV and brother of Gregor Lederwasch V and Seraphin Lederwasch .

resume

Johann Lederwasch was a student of Johann Baptist Hagenauer in Salzburg from 1768 to 1774 and worked in Murau in Upper Styria from 1780 and in Judenburg and other places in Styria in 1809 . In 1813 he went to Graz where he died completely impoverished.

He was called "Styrian Teniers" because of his original traditional costumes and genre paintings, painted in an emphatically Dutch manner. Johann is particularly important as a church painter, the quality and originality of his work varies greatly. Of particular importance are his station pictures of the Way of the Cross in Winklern , which are painted full of baroque liveliness through strong contrasts and colors.
