Population development
While the decline in the number of inhabitants was slight in the second half of the 20th century, it rose sharply around the turn of the millennium. The reason for this is that emigration has increased and the birth balance has become negative. The decline affects the youth particularly hard. The proportion of those under the age of fifteen fell by 30.6 percent between 2001 and 2019, while those over the age of sixty-five increased by 19.1 percent over the same period.
Culture and sights
- In 1989, important late Romanesque frescoes (zigzag style) were uncovered and restored in the parish church of Sankt Georgen.
Economy and Infrastructure
In 2010 there were 65 agricultural and forestry holdings, 24 of which were full-time farms. The full-time farms cultivated two thirds of the 4225 hectares of agricultural land. In the manufacturing sector, six companies employed 27 people, mostly in the manufacture of goods. The service sector employed 115 people in 30 companies (as of 2011).
