history
The earliest written document is from 1066 and is "Wizinchiricha". The name goes back to Old High German wiz (white) and describes a parcel with a church made of white stone.
The village is located at the intersection of Gaberl Straße B 77 and Obdacher Straße B 78 in the center of Murboden on an alluvial cone of the Granitzenbach . It was created between the estates and mills of the surrounding lordship of Eppenstein, Thann and Liechtenstein. The market survey took place in 1453. The political community Weißkirchen was established in 1849/50, in 1951 the name was changed to Weißkirchen in Steiermark .
The townscape is well preserved. The mostly two-story houses are mostly with the eaves facing the street. Parts of the market were destroyed several times by floods and fires. Therefore, many of the facades date from the 19th century.
