The parish church Weißkirchen in Steiermark is located in the market town of Weißkirchen in Steiermark in the Murtal district in Styria . The Roman Catholic parish church consecrated to St. Vitus belongs to the Judenburg deanery in the Graz-Seckau diocese . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).
history
A church was mentioned in a document in 1066. The church was incorporated into the St. Lambrecht Abbey from 1103 to 1958 . After being destroyed in the war with the Turks , the church was rebuilt in 1480 as a two-aisled church. In the second half of the 16th century, the church was expanded to include a south aisle. In 1901 the church was demolished, the tower, the choir and ancillary rooms were preserved. The new church was built in 1903/1904 according to the plans of the architect Johann Pascher in neo-Gothic forms. The inside of the old choir was restored in 1968/1969.
architecture
The five-bay nave has drawn-in struts with a circumferential gallery. The one-yoke choir has a five-eighth closing . The stained glass windows of the church were created by the Tyrolean glass painting company .
To the north of the choir is the Romanesque square choir tower with a flat-domed vault, the neo-Gothic upper floor with a pointed helmet and corner towers was built in 1897. To the east of the tower is a late Gothic two-bay choir with a five-eighth end, the choir has a ribbed vault on strong semicircular services on wall templates. The walled up choir windows have tracery, the glazed choir windows are baroque.
Furnishing
The facility was built in 1904. The high altar based on a design by Johann Pascher has sculptures by Peter Neuböck . There are also two side altars and a pulpit.
