Until the end of 2014, Amering was a municipality with 1,079 inhabitants (as of October 31, 2013) in the Murtal district in Styria . The community was in the judicial district of Judenburg . Since 2015 it has been merged with the communities of Obdach , Sankt Anna am Lavantegg and Sankt Wolfgang-Kienberg as part of the Styrian community structural reform , the new community continues the name "Obdach".
geography
Geographical location
Amering lies in the line connecting the upper Murtal, Aichfeld and Lavanttal. The municipality bordered directly on the Styrian-Carinthian state border and on the border between West Styria and Upper Styria.
It is named after the Ameringkogel (2187 m), the highest point in the Stubalpe mountain range .

The municipality comprised the following six localities (residents as of January 1, 2016):

- Grossprethal (122)
- Kathal in Obdachegg (124)
- Kleinprethal (69)
- Obdachegg (251)
- Sankt Georgen in Obdachegg (64)
The community consisted of the two cadastral communities Obdachegg and Prethal.
history
The Amering community was formed on January 1st, 1968 by merging the Obdachegg and Prethal communities .
Culture and sights
economy
Economically, the area is largely shaped by agriculture. Small-scale farms in scattered areas shape the appearance of the community. In addition to agriculture, the timber industry is an important source of income.
The qualities of the place lie in its seclusion combined with the proximity to important infrastructure, which distinguishes the place as a residential area.

The municipal council consisted of 15 members until the end of 2014 and, since the municipal council election in 2010, has consisted of mandataries from the following parties:

coat of arms
The coat of arms of the former municipality of Amering represents a wooden construction, as it was used in the local farms in the area to tidy up hay barns. Brown bars, marked on a blue background and green coat of arms. Due to the amalgamation of the municipalities, the coat of arms lost its official validity on January 1st, 2015.
