Peter Rieser

Peter Rieser (born July 5, 1950 in Obdach ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and farmer. Rieser was a member of the Federal Council from 1996 to 1998 and a member of the Styrian state parliament from 1998 to 2012 .

education and profession

Rieser attended elementary and secondary school between 1956 and 1964 and then an agricultural vocational school between 1964 and 1966. In addition, he graduated from an agricultural college from 1966 to 1969 and then did military service from 1969. Rieser was a member of the armed forces from 1969 to 1977 and, as part of this activity, completed his army non-commissioned officer training, the army economics school and also passed administrative service exams. He then worked as a secretary at the ÖAAB from 1977 to 1981 and worked in the insurance industry between 1981 and 1988. In 1989 he took over the regional management of the Austrian Black Cross Styria. From 1994 to 2012 Rieser was President of the Styrian Comradeship Association .

politics

Rieser began his political career between 1975 and 1996 as a local councilor for Amering and between 1980 and 1982 he was Vice Mayor. He was then mayor of Amering from 1982 to 1996 and represented the ÖVP Styria in the Federal Council from January 23, 1996 to September 21, 1998. From September 22, 1998 to April 24, 2012 Rieser was a member of the Styrian state parliament, where he most recently held the position of defense spokesman in the ÖVP state parliament club. His successor in the state parliament, which Rieser left at his own request, is Hermann Hartleb .

Within the party, Rieser held the role of district chairman of the Young People's Party Judenburg between 1975 and 1984 and was regional chairman of the Young ÖVP Styria from 1980 to 1983. In addition, he has been local party chairman of ÖVP Amering since 1982 and district party chairman of ÖVP Judenburg since 1995.

According to his own statements, Rieser's political priorities are rural areas and a constitutional, administrative and electoral reform.
