An accommodation (also shelter or live ) is a protected site ( building , Logis , tent , vehicle , etc.) which at least serves to stay. Most of the accommodations are for living .

Even vehicles can serve as accommodation (usually temporary): cars , motor homes , caravans , festvertäute houseboats , barges and residential buses . Watercraft (e.g. ferries , cruise ships and yachts ) as well as trains or passenger planes can also serve as accommodation for the duration of a trip .

Statistical information is only collected for accommodation if it was inhabited at the time of the census. Caravans and arbours are only recorded as inhabited accommodation if their residents did not have any other apartment or other residential unit. Buildings with only one or two leisure units are also shown as accommodation, provided that their total living space is less than 50 m².

Demarcation

Some people spend the night without accommodation, e.g. B. in the open air ("Hotel 1000 Stars"), in the forest, city park or under bridges / underpasses , furthermore there are people who are voluntarily or involuntarily generally without shelter .
