The Seetal Alps are a mountain range of the Lavanttaler or Noric Alps in Austria south of the Mur between Scheifling and Zeltweg . The highest peak is the Zirbitzkogel ( 2396  m ).

topography

The Seetal Alps are bounded in the north by the Murtal, in the east by the Obdacher Sattel , in the south by the Klippitztörl and in the west by the Neumarkter Sattel . Most of it is in Styria , the state of Carinthia is only reached towards the Klippitztörl . The main peaks are (from north to south):

  • Weisseck ( 1743  m )
  • Fire bar ( 1721  m )
  • High Ranach ( 1981  m )
  • Erslstand ( 2124  m )
  • Wenzelalpe ( 2151  m )
  • Kreiskogel ( 2306  m ) with the very difficult Lukas-Max via ferrata
  • Sharp corner ( 2364  m )
  • Zirbitzkogel ( 2396  m )
  • Fuchskogel ( 2214  m )
  • Streitwiesenalm (popularly known as the Blutwiese) with Judenburger Kreuz ( 1764  m )
  • Zöhrerkogel ( 1874  m )
  • Angerlkogel ( 1774  m )
  • Jägerstube ( 1749  m )

There is a larger ski area at the Klippitztörl and skiing is also practiced at the Tonnerhütte.

The high mountain range consists of some rugged rock formations that protrude far beyond the tree line.

The area is crossed by the Austrian long-distance hiking trail 08 (Eisenwurzenweg). This reaches its highest point on the Zirbitzkogel.

tourism

The mountains are a popular destination for mountaineers and hikers. The mountains also have some ski areas on the Klippitztörl and north of it.

On the north slope, accessible from Judenburg , is the high mountain training area "Seetaler Alpe" of the Austrian Armed Forces .

  • Winterleitenhütte ( 1782  m ) northeast of the Zirbitzkogel
  • Alpengasthof Sabathy ( 1620  m ), at the eastern foot of the Zirbitzkogel
  • Zirbitzkogelhaus ( 2376  m ), just below the Zirbitzkogel summit
  • Tonnerhütte ( 1600  m ), halfway between Mühlen (village) and Zirbitzkogel
  • Waldheimhütte ( 1614  m ), halfway between Obdach and Zirbitzkogel
  • St.Martiner Hütte ( 1710  m ), near the Streitwiesenalm
  • Klippitztörlhütte ( 1644  m ), on the Klippitztörl near the ski area
