The parish church of Neufelden stands southeast at the end of the market square above a steep slope to the Great Mühl in Neufelden in the market town of the same name in the Rohrbach district in the upper Mühlviertel in Upper Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated to Saints Philip and James , belongs to the Altenfelden dean's office in the diocese of Linz . The church building is under monument protection ( list entry ).

history

A branch church of Altenfelden was mentioned in a document in 1337. From 1501 a priest lived in the village. From 1667 a vicariate, the church was elevated to a parish church in 1891. The tower from the middle to the end of the 13th century was increased in the 15th century. The nave walls are from the 14th century, the late Gothic choir and the nave vault were built in the fourth quarter of the 15th century. The chapel of the dead, today's choir vault and the tower structure were created with the sculptor Franz Stadler (1771). The extension of the gallery parapet to the north was carried out with the sculptor Franz Oberhuber (1859).

architecture

The church is surrounded by a walled cemetery. The remarkable three-bay late Gothic wall pillar church with a jumping diamond vault contains older Gothic nave walls. The late Gothic two-bay choir has a flat three-eighth end and is vaulted with a baroque square vault. The mighty medieval tower as a former defensive tower is presented in the line of the southern nave wall of the west facade. To the north of the nave and choir is a late Baroque chapel for the dead, two-bayed with a tied-off triumphal arch and a single-bay choir with a straight end, vaulted with barrels of lancet caps. The baroque vestibule of the chapel of the dead under a barrel cap. To the south of the nave and choir is a single-storey late Baroque sacristy.

Furnishing

The remarkable altars were probably created around 1760 by the sculptor Franz Stadler and the sculptor Antony Andres.
