The Roman Catholic parish church Neumarkt im Tauchental is located in Neumarkt im Tauchental in the municipality of Stadtschlaining in the Oberwart district in Burgenland . The church consecrated to St. Nicholas belongs to the Dean's office in Rechnitz in the Eisenstadt diocese . The church is a listed building .

history

The parish church is mentioned in a document in 1438 and has a Gothic choir from the 15th century. The nave was redesigned in baroque style. In the massive basement of the high west tower remains of the masonry of the fortified church Niklasturm mentioned in 1289 are assumed, the upper floor with onion helmet is from 1788. On the church tower there are Roman stones with remarkable reliefs. In 1975 a funeral hall was added to the north.

The old cemetery behind the church with quarry stone wall and a staircase from 1756 contains an epitaph by Joseph and Katharina Kaldy. In 1849 a new cemetery with a cemetery chapel was built in the village .

Furnishing

The high altar from 1744/1745 was created by the carpenter Johann Vogler from Rechnitz. The figures are by the sculptor Joseph Rast from Steinamanger, the frame is by the painter Gabriel Schilram from Steinamanger.
