The Pöchlarn parish church is free, surrounded by the former Karner and the Wiener Strasse house, and with the west tower at the Kirchenplatz No. 1 house, then at the location of the former Roman praetorium on the Kirchplatz and in a narrow space on the Pfarrgasse in the municipality of Pöchlarn in the Melk district in Lower Austria . The Roman Catholic parish church , consecrated on the feast of the Assumption of Mary , belongs to the Deanery Ybbs in the diocese of St. Pölten . The church is a listed building ( list entry ).

history

The rights of the parish lay in the 9th century at the Peterskirche east outside the city wall on the Danube near the village of Pöchlarn, this parish around 1100, documented 1168 parish, in 1499 at risk of collapse, badly damaged by an ice fall in 1744, the cemetery there was still in function in 1744 , Desecrated in 1786 and demolished in 1793. The core of the late Gothic church building, the choir is named 1486, the nave is named 1496, was probably redesigned in Baroque style by Johann Michael Ehmann after a fire from 1766 to 1768 . The north tower collapsed after the fire in 1766, the new high west tower was built from 1775 to 1781. The cemetery around the church was closed in 1784.
